Russian experts developed titanium implants to help dogs breathe

Recently, the NUST misis of Russia's national research and Technology University announced that experts from nust misis and biomimetix, cooperated with veterinarians to develop titanium nickel implants for pugs. The implant allows animals with laryngeal collapse to breathe on their own without intubation in the throat.

According to experts, high nickel titanium alloy products with shape memory effect are widely used in medicine. Nust misis used this alloy to make implants for pugs with collapsed throats. Laryngeal collapse is a common disease in this breed, which causes shortness of breath and dyspnea. As a result, animals may die or be forced to breathe through special cannulas for life.

According to the professional experts, less than three months after implantation, the tissue grew through the pores of the stent, and the stent was completely implanted into the dog's throat. At present, we have developed a series of customized implant technology, a small number of products have come out, and developed the heat treatment mode.

In the case of serious animal disease, implants can be installed. Previously, when sick animals no longer responded to oxygen mask therapy, the only way to treat them was to perform tracheotomy. Through the skin of the neck, a tube is installed in the trachea, which needs to be kept clean at all times, remove mucus and cilia, otherwise the trachea will be blocked. The effectiveness of the stent has been demonstrated in clinical practice - the stent was successfully installed in two dogs.

Currently, experts are looking for more technical designs for implants to reduce their costs, and developing porous polymer coating technology to improve their integration with the larynx.
