Titanium alloy has the characteristics of high specific strength, good heat resistance and corrosion resistance. High speed cutting technology has been widely used in industrial production due to its advantages of high efficiency, high precision, high surface quality and machining of high hard materials. In order to improve the production efficiency and reduce the production cost, scholars have carried out a lot of experimental research on high speed cutting of titanium alloy. In this paper, the research progress in recent years in the field of high speed cutting of titanium alloy are summarized, analyzed the serrated chip, cutting force, cutting temperature, surface quality and tool wear test results, points out the existing problems and trend of optimization, to promote the development of high speed cutting of titanium alloy processing technology.


Titanium alloy is widely used in many fields because of its superior properties and is called super alloy material. However, it is a typical hard to machined material, in the cutting process will appear serious tool wear, cutting force, high cutting temperature and poor surface quality and other problems, to the machining of titanium alloy parts bring great difficulties. Although the application of high speed cutting technology promotes the progress of titanium alloy machining technology, its machining mechanism is quite different from that of traditional cutting, so further research is needed.

Through a large number of experiments on high speed cutting of titanium alloy, scholars at home and abroad have revealed the mechanism of high speed cutting to a certain extent, but the reasonable selection of cutting parameters and the choice of tool materials are still the bottleneck problems restricting the current titanium alloy cutting. In the future, systematic research on chip deformation, cutting force, cutting temperature and machined surface quality should be emphasized to reveal the quantitative relationship between sawtooth chip and periodic cutting force, cutting temperature and machined surface quality. In order to improve the service performance of titanium alloy parts, the study of surface white layer and residual stress was strengthened.
