According to the university's website, a new Centre for defence Industrial and medical materials research and development will be established.

The main work will aim at developing advanced technologies for acquiring materials by combining methods accumulated during research at the Tomsk State University.

The center's research and development includes aluminum-magnesium alloy products for use in the aerospace industry. Titanium alloys and superelastic titanium base alloys will be developed for medical applications, as well as wear resistant and biocompatible coatings of up to 100 nanometers in thickness for implants.

The new Centre for Materials Science at Tomsk State University will open in 2023.
